We are in the future (2088, post-apocalypse) in That Man An, a Jazz club located in what was formerly known as Manhattan. Too much soy has been consumed, it rendered men infertile. Women are spontaneously conceiving and giving birth to all sorts of species (mainly extinct ones). The populations of many animals are growing nowadays. Because of these pregnancies, births can be more complex; there is a high demand on midwives. For them, no cross-species birth is a taboo. Sometimes a woman does give birth to a human still, they are called lënu.Jazz is now the word for music. The Jazz genre absorbed and transformed influences from diverse musical styles and was the only one able to go with the flow after the apocalypse. In That Man An, all the buzz is kept out. It is a safe haven for those who know it, which are a select few. The club is run by Francis F, a bartender who lost her body during infancy. At the club, a group of friends regularly meet, among them are Grace Grey, Juniper and Jon Larsen.
